Test Corrections

Tests are the best way for a teacher and student to assess what exactly has been learned in a math class.  Sometimes tests reveal that students have mastered the material taught and sometimes they reveal otherwise.  That is why I allow students to do test corrections.

Purpose of Test Corrections:

  1. To allow students to raise their test grades.
  2. To encourage students to master the concepts or computations tested so they are ready to move on to new material.

How to Complete a Test Correction:

  1. Get your graded test and a clean sheet of paper.
  2. On the clean sheet of paper, rework any missed problems from the test. Show all of your work.  DO NOT WRITE ON THE ORIGINAL TEST.
  3. Clearly number the problems you rework.
  4. If you miss a true/false, multiple choice, or sometimes/always/never question, explain why you changed the answer or you will not receive credit for the correction.
  5. Get the help you need to rework the problems correctly. Ask a parent, sibling, friend, or anyone you know who knows math to explain what you did wrong if you can’t figure it out.
  6. Feel free to look in your textbook and notebook.
  7. When you have exhausted other resources and still do not understand a missed problem, or you think I made a mistake (because I do at times), contact me by email and I will do what I can to help.
  8. Submit the test correction by uploading it to the test correction assignment for that particular test in Showbie. 

Due Date:

  1. You benefit most by doing a test correction immediately after receiving back the test to be corrected because you are less likely to repeat your mistakes on future tests.
  2. You are strongly encouraged to do test corrections right away while the material is still fresh in your mind.
  3. Test corrections are due one week from the time that the original test is graded. If you are allowed to submit any additional test corrections for the same test, you have one week from the date you received feedback from the preceding test correction to submit those, unless you were provided a specific due date.
  4. Exception: All test corrections for the last test of the year are due by the date given on the calendar.  There is less time to complete that correction.

How a Test Correction Affects a Test Grade:

  1. For every wrong answer that is corrected, I will award half of the points that were originally deducted. So, if a student corrects a problem worth five points, I will award 2.5 points.
  2. No points will be awarded for incorrect “corrections.”
  3. No points will be awarded for correcting Extra Credit problems.

The instructor has sole discretion over whether to accept test corrections for a given test.  Semester exams are not eligible for test corrections.  Test corrections will not be accepted if a student does not complete the homework for the lessons covered on that test as described in the homework policies.

If A STUDENT RECEIVES A “C” OR LOWER ON A TEST, HE MUST COMPLETE AN ACCEPTABLE TEST CORRECTION AND CORRECT ALL MISSED PROBLEMS IN ORDER TO BE ENROLLED IN FUTURE MATH CLASSES.
